On 1 July 2026, EUROfusion assumes the presidency of EIROforum, which rotates annually between the forum’s nine members.

EUROfusion Programme Manager Gianfranco Federici assumes the position of EIROforum Chair and will lead the DG Assembly for the next twelve months. He succeeds the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), which held the presidency until now.

“It is an honour for EUROfusion to take on the Presidency of EIROforum,” said Federici. “We look forward to strengthening collaboration across Europe’s research infrastructures and reinforcing their essential role in driving innovation and addressing global challenges.”

Over the coming year, EUROfusion will steer EIROforum’s discussions on the growing role of generative AI in science, and work to strengthen the forum’s working groups, so their outputs are more structured and their recommendations more actionable.

The presidency will be anchored by two EIROforum DG Assembly meetings: the first in January at the ITER site in Cadarache, France, and the second in May in Brussels.

EUROfusion’s tenure will conclude on 30 June 2027.
