Science drives the development of scientific and technological instrumentation by generating copious amounts of data, which have to be shared, analysed and stored, all at widely different locations. Examples of such developments include the new generation of particle physics detectors, and virtual observatories that make use of data obtained from the largest astronomical facilities around the world.
The EIROforum organisations work together on the development of new scientific instrumentation and to define future needs in this area. Expertise within the organisations is identified and shared in common projects. Issues covered include detector development and the acquisition, analysis and visualisation of data, as well as intellectual property rights related to the transfer of technology.
