Bringing Science to Society

The interface between science and society is fundamental to a society based on knowledge, whose citizens can make informed judgements and decisions on science related issues.
EIROforum is committed to building on the well-documented public interest in science, using all forms of communication to foster dialogue and interest. As such, EIROforum participates in science communication activities such as the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) conference and the Communicating European Research (CER) conference.
In particular, EIROforum is dedicated to improving science education in Europe's primary and secondary schools through a variety of major projects. These projects include the EIROforum Science on Stage festival. This event was repaeated five times – each time bringing together hundreds of teachers from across Europe to swap ideas and best practice via workshops, a teaching fair and performances / demonstrations. The legacy of Science on Stage is an integrated network of dedicated science teachers in each country - who continue to plan significant national and European science teaching activities.
EIROforum also funds and supports the European science teachers journal Science in School. This covers all areas of science including teaching activities, education projects, events for teachers and reports on cutting edge science at EIROforum organisations and beyond. Science in School is freely available in English via 30 000 printed copies distributed all across Europe, and online in over 25 European languages.
